Transporting into the Future

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt The 2020s is the decade when so many of our favorite anime series and Hollywood blockbusters take place. While Ghost in the Shell (1995) depicted a neon-lit cyberpunk Tokyo, Her (2013) set in a techno-perfect Los Angels not in a distant future where a man can date his operating system. However, at far as we know, the very first year of the decade, 2020, is not what we expected. As we spent most of our time at home, we haven’t experienced anything 2020-ish. We expected a cyberpunk-themed car accelerating on the night highway leaving … Continue ReadingTransporting into the Future

As a Citizen of the World

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.” ― John Lennon Yesterday, my dad told me about a conversation he had with my mom. “I’m not sure how much longer I will live,” he said. “Don’t say that,” said my mom. “My life would be horribly boring without you.”They were watching a TV program about the elderly, and they somewhat projected themselves deeply into elderly people facing their death featured in the program. Together for forty years, they’re inseparable now. Since my dad spent most of his career in the elderly care industry, … Continue ReadingAs a Citizen of the World

Enjoy Your Challenges

“If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.” ― E.B. White Hi, it’s been a while since I last updated my blog. So, where have I been? Well, long story short, I’ve been through a lot during the past two months. And this overdue post is really hard to write. There were full of ups and downs. Breakup. Struggle, and depression. 2019 overall was full of hopes, encounters, and … Continue ReadingEnjoy Your Challenges

My Kansai Region Travel

“I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.” ― Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest Overall, my October travel to the Kansai region, including Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe, was amazing and refreshing. As I mentioned in previous posts, I’ve already traveled across Osaka back in May. So, my main focus of this time was socializing with my friend who newly moved to the city all the way from Germany with his wife. We walked around the city and ate Kushikatsu together. I had a lot of fun! And the third day was the busiest. Having been to Kyoto, which is … Continue ReadingMy Kansai Region Travel

Nankinmachi

“I’m astounded by people who want to ‘know’ the universe when it’s hard enough to find your way around Chinatown.” ― Woody Allen Just like my home city, Yokohama, Kobe has its Chinatown, known as Nakinmachi. Interestingly, the closest JR station to the district is called Motomachi, and Yokohama also has a district whose name is Motomachi that is close to Yokohama’s Chinatown. Why are they so similar to each other? You can google it if you want. It was my first time in my life to visit the place, and Kobe’s Chinatown was cozy and very amusing. A great place to visit for your dinner or some Chinese snacks. … Continue ReadingNankinmachi

Meriken Park

“It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald When it comes to the Kansai region, Kobe is sometimes overlooked, but the city is one of the major cities of Japan, offering many amusing places that are worth your visit. Meriken Park is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Kobe. It is kinda a counterpart of Yokohama’s Minato Mirai 21. A district with a western feel to it. Enjoy the view, have some drinks, and spend a fantastic evening. Since Kobe is only 30 minutes ride … Continue ReadingMeriken Park

Saturday Evening in Osaka

“Each night, when I go to sleep, I die. And the next morning, when I wake up, I am reborn.”― Mahatma Gandhi The second day of Osaka was pretty good. I went to the city basically because of meeting my long-separated friend who recently moved to Japan with his wife all the way from Germany. For the entire day, I spent with him, traveling across the city, from Osaka Castle to Tsutenkaku. Since I had already visited the city in the first week of May, my intention was more for socialization than sightseeing. Because of the obvious language barrier, he told me that he had to follow his Japanese wife whenever … Continue ReadingSaturday Evening in Osaka

Osaka in Rain

“It’s faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes a life worth living.” ― Oliver Wendell Holmes Hi guys. It’s been a little while since I lasted posted here. Why? Well, it was neither because I was lazy nor lost passion for blogging. It was simply because there were so many things I was interested in, and I decided to commit myself to my passions instead of blogging. But hey, I’m back here now (Yay)! So where have I been? Well, for most of the entire October, I was learning HTML and CSS to learn basic web skills; and that’s not for Canvas of Dreams, but for accomplishing my … Continue ReadingOsaka in Rain

My Little Rebellion Against the Norm

“If you want to rebel, rebel from inside the system. That’s much more powerful than rebelling outside the system.” ― Marie Lu, Legend One night, my colleague asked me to go for a drink. At a bar, he kept telling me how awesome it is to interact with new people. And I agreed with that. One thing, however, divided us was that those whom we interact with are fundamentally different. He was only able to speak his native language, namely Japanese. So, those whom he interacted with were solely limited to the Japanese. And there’s nothing wrong with that. The problem, though, was that he tried to persuade me to … Continue ReadingMy Little Rebellion Against the Norm
