Learn a Language and Inhale the Culture Behind it
“War is what happens when language fails.” ― Margaret Atwood I do believe learning a language is a life-changing experience. According to a Google search, roughly 6,500 languages are spoken in the world today. It’s an astonishing number! So, there are 6,500 opportunities to view the world differently and 6,500 chances to understand those who have different backgrounds. They may have different perspectives and beliefs than yours, but it doesn’t mean you have to disagree with them. We, humans, can understand each other through words. That’s what apart us from other types of animals. Languages could be as harmful as a knife and hurt our feelings, at the same time …
Think Twice
“My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” ― Abraham Lincoln If you are an enthusiastic Trump supporter and are going to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election, please think twice… I know I’m not an American citizen and don’t have any right to participate in the upcoming election in November, but I want to share my thoughts here. And this post is especially dedicated to my international friends in North America, because the White House’s directions heavily influence its allies, including my country, Japan. When I was a kid, I grew …
Be As You Are
“It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.” ― Andre Gide, Autumn Leaves This world unnecessarily makes us unhappy. It seems that our generation is more likely to experience stress and pressure than previous generations. That’s because there are so many reasons why we’re likely to be depressed: pressures at home, school, and work, worry about financial issues, global warming, and pandemic. In particular, social pressures we face every day likely to cause emotional instability. Our world keeps asking us who we are: What’s your job? What’s your educational background? Where are you from? They keep asking us to …
A Night Walk in an Ancient Island
“Photography is a magical kind of art that allows people to preserve time and moments, and to describe the world the way they see it.” ― Sahara Sanders My last destination of the trip was Itsukushima Island, also as known as Miyajima. I had been to the island last year by myself, but this time I wasn’t alone. For some reasons, I decided to visit Hiroshima to see someone to travel with. Despite it being late at night as well as the rainy weather, we were able to make the most of our time. Additionally, we witnessed the floating trii gate lit up in stunning orange color, which is a …

Enoshima Island
“The context in which a photograph is seen affects the meaning the viewer draws from it.” ― Stephen Shore Enoshima is a touristy island off the coast of Fujisawa city, Kanagawa prefecture, but connected by bridge with the mainland. Ever since my childhood, I’ve been to this little island for many times. Since the island is mostly dominated by a forested hill which can only be explored by walk, it might be a good exercise to stroll around the island, especially during fall, not summer. Itsukushima
“Today everything exists to end in a photograph.” ― Susan Sontag During my short stay in Hiroshima, I visited Itsukushima, also known as Miyajima – meaning Shrine Island in Japanese. The island is situated in the northwest of Hiroshima Bay. The island is widely known for the Itsukushima Shrine, including the iconic torii gate that welcomes the visitors to the island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Additionally, the island is home to a numerous number of temples, including Toyokuni Shrine and Daiganji Temple. According to Wikipedia: “The island of Itsukushima, including the waters around it (part of Seto Inland Sea), are within Setonaikai National Park. This sea is …
