The “Old” New World

During Golden Week, I went to one of my most anticipated cities, Osaka. My first stop was the Tsutenkaku Tower.

When you are in Osaka, the Tsutenkaku Tower is a must. If you asked a random Japanese person about Osaka’s landmark building, the chances are very high that he/she would say it’s Tsutenkaku.

Its neighborhood is called Shinsekai, meaning “New World”. Back in 1912, the neighborhood was a new world, but the area hasn’t been renovated for decades, falling behind times. Its neighborhood, therefore, is a bit rusty and run down.

Although the tower has been renovated a few times in order to make it resistant against earthquake several decades ago, it still looks a lot outdated. But without a shadow of a doubt, Tsutenkaku Tower is an integral part of the city’s skyline.

Although this is not the tallest building in the city, you can enjoy a nice view of its neighborhood. It is a good place to explore and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
