“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
― Mark Twain
Every time I met my old friends, their reactions are the same again and again. “Oh, did you get fat?” or “Have you lost weight?” They only reacted to how I look and never guessed what I have been through during those years. They never allow themselves to have a moment to think about my personal growth either. And it points out this fact – our eyes make us blind to what really matters.
Think about it. We could be misinformed by our eyes. Just because we can see the world as it is doesn’t mean we fully understand the true nature of it. Maybe we’re missing something important.
Let’s get back to what I mentioned earlier – when you meet a new person, what catches your eyes the most? Maybe how they look, how they behave, and so forth. But you never know what they have been through and what they’re capable of. Not to mention, everyone has his/her own story to tell and so does you. Those like-no-other experiences make you shine in the crowd.
Next time, when you meet someone new, allow yourself to have a moment to think about what they’ve been through instead of only focusing on how they look. Their stories are every bit as mysterious as yours. Share your story and ask theirs as well. Maybe knowing someones else is another way to discover your inner self too.
Here are some photos of street arts and objects I photographed in Shibuya, Tokyo. Maybe their background stories are as mysterious as how they look…
