Hiroshima Peace Memorial has been attracting me. Not only does the building fascinate me because of its devastated feature, but also its silent but powerful message it sends to those who see it live. Different people may have different feelings about the building that has been silently standing there for more than half a century. But, according to my understanding, an undeniable message the memorial has been sending not only to those who are living in the city but also to the rest of the world is that peace is something we can make happen as long as we put enough effort into creating it. The ruins serve as a memorial to those who were killed instantly in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. Unlike the ones I photographed last year during the daytime, it looks a whole lot different when photographed at night.
Ruins in the Dark
“Could this be my own face, I wondered. My heart pounded at the idea, and the face in the mirror grew more and more unfamiliar.”
